In honour of National Indigenous Peoples day, I'm excited to share with you the Board of Directors for the Indigenous Occupational Therapy Collective of Canada (indigenousot.ca) These are some of the most amazing Indigenous women I know 😍

Holly Smith one of our Directors - she is Haudenosaunee, Kanien'kehá:ka from Six Nations of the Grand River. She has over 12 years of clinical & leadership experience in mental health, project management, policy development, change management, operations and health service admin.

Kaarina Valavaara is a Board Member - she is a queer Métis woman, occupational therapist, instructor, & PhD student. She has co-chaired national networks & continues to lead collaboratively with other Indigenous occupational therapists to transform OT & promote Indigenous rights.

Nichol Marsch is our Secretary - Nichol is a Red River Métis artist and occupational therapist from Winnipeg Manitoba. Upon graduating from the U of M, their clinical practice is based primarily in paediatrics with a focus on providing support in rural and remote school settings.

Katelyn Favel is a Board Member - she is nehiyaw iskwew from Poundmaker Cree Nation, an occupational therapist in Alberta, & a PhD Candidate at U of A. Her clinical work is primarily in the area of working with children, families and communities, largely in school-based settings.

Corrine Clyne is a Board Member - she is a Swampy Cree Iskwew hailing from Kinosao Sipi- Norway House Cree Nation on Treaty 5 Territory, a registered OT in Manitoba, and a PhD student. Corrine is deeply committed to advocating for First Nations to receive culturally safer care.

Deanna Starr is our Treasurer - she is an occupational therapist & founder of Miskihnak Occupational Therapy, an Indigenous OT pediatric clinic . She is of Nêhiyaw and German descent and is a citizen of Little Pine First Nation and lives in North Battleford, SK.

I am incredibly honoured to work with amazing Indigenous OTs across the country. As we continue to advance to work of the Indigenous OT Collective of Canada - we hope to enact meaningful change in education, research, and clinical practice to better support Indigenous peoples!
