What are some good ways to “refresh” a foreign language, without hours every day or access to speakers? Used to speak pretty decent Italian (lived there and was able to piggyback off near-fluency in French) and would like to resurrect some of it for a trip a few months from now.

A few more Fitz pics for the Park City crowd. Four of your neighbors didn't want this lift in your community. They got their wish so off it went to Whistler. Another one remains in storage in Utah and will head north to Blackcomb this summer.

Whenever you see NIMBY’s in a city council meeting and blocking housing, remember they’re doing it to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from the next buyer of their house. They are freeriders with a decaying asset expecting someone to kiss their feet for the opportunity.

Utah dino Deer Valley Resort Park City Mountain Want to make Park City Mountain better? Do the following: * Upgrade the 30-year-old Silverlode with a faster 8-pack * Replace Eagle with a high-speed lift up to the old Ski Team lift terminus * Add another high speed lift below Miner’s Camp up to the Crescent lift terminus *

Sometimes I wonder why I wasted 6+ years in engineering and planning school when we just defer all decisions to random neighborhood busybodies who are like “what if people like their cars and want to park them wherever the fuck they want, also all change is gentrification!”

Santa Cruz has really jaded me to the selfishness of these rich coastal communities. They're all white towns full of retirees with a hidden underclass of Latino workers holding up every sector of their economy. Yet their NIMBY housing policies keeps them segregated far away.

My chakra theory of parties At a good party you need: Head people (analytical, sharp, considered) Heart people (warm, sincere, engaging) Gut people (sexuality-forward, daring, funny) This is why SF parties mostly blow, NYC parties rule, and LA parties are great but hollow

One thing I really love about Greek-Americans is not only do they fucking LOVE being Greek, they want everyone to be Greek, there’s no gatekeeping. When I married my husband they treated me like I had acquired inherent Greekness from him.

If you want to know why so many YIMBYs are so skeptical of public engagement processes, it's this: The goal is not community consensus, or finding the option that works for everyone. The goal is to ensure NIMBYs win. This is true literally everywhere.

I have lived here 25 years and I don’t want my surroundings to change is not in fact a valid argument against a proposed project.

not to be controversial but personally i think we should have more options than a gently alive corpse and the dumbest Hitler of all time

James Medlock (@jdcmedlock) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Regardless of if you call yourself a "YIMBY" you should recognize this sort of NIMBYism as 1) not a product of genuine democratic deliberation but a process highly selective of the worst busybodies 2) incompatible with a world where the state aggressively builds out public goods

Some Guy I have untold financial wealth, and I own a local newspaper, so have some perspective. Like Warren Buffet likes to say, surprisingly little changes when you move from upper-middle class to truly rich. Houses are houses. Cars are cars. Watches are stupid. What’s more important is
