With more information you can explain what can or cannot happen. Life does the same: more information => more control over what gets to happen and what doesn’t get to happen. Information is both a constraint and a ladder.

Note: RNAseP = 14 + 125kDa (~400 nts) Average protein = 40~50kDa (~300 AAs) AAs are 2-3x lighter & cheaper to make than NTs. Transcription is cheaper than Translation but ribozymes tend to get replaced by proteins over time. mRNAs fold too but Ribosome itself is an mRNA helicase

Planets can't be building blocks of life because they can't combine w/ each other meaningfully & there's not enough of them. Atoms on the other hand are amazing at creating a diverse set of poly-atoms (molecules) to build layers of organization - perfect substrate for computation

'Folded molecules' introduce 'control' which is indispensable for life and its ability to allow only a subset of things to happen before everything turns into tar. In 'life as we know it', constraint closure is embodied by folded matter.

Proteins are not just “catalysts”. They’re “activity-regulated, substrate-specific catalysts deployed en masse with quantity and quality-control”. This is really hard to do with just small molecules / metabolites. Autocatalytic sets of molecules can only go so far?

'Folded matter' needs to evolve before the origin of code because coding is only possible with reliable matching between different symbols. The letters ABC and あいう 'fold' reliably => can support a language system. If we all wrote random squiggles we can never store information
