I'm willing to bet the majority of the code running the products your customers are paying for actually is on GH. People pay for solutions to their problems, most of them couldn't care less where the code is. Also: I have a ton of code on GH that has made my company a lot of $$.

The more senior you are along the IC track, the less the specific language/technology matters. Much more important: Ability to make your team(s) better, capability of driving cross-team collaboration, and understanding of both engineering best practices and business impact.

My rule of thumb when doing reviews is: "will the intern who joined the team a couple of months ago be able to understand this?". If the answer is no, the code is too complex.
