Teachers: Not everything about managing behaviour that Bennett said is unhelpful. But the belief that punishment is a deterrent for a sizeable number of pupils is wrong. It doesn’t work in our justice system & it doesn’t work in education.

This narrative from politicians is outdated and harmful. Young people are not struggling because they lack grit. They are struggling because: 1/ They can’t access mental health support 2/ They finish uni with a mountain of debt and a degree that doesn’t secure them work 3/

A sobering message from a history teacher: I’ve spent years teaching American and international government — from strong democracies like the UK to authoritarian regimes like russia and China. But lately, the most alarming lesson comes from home. 1/n

Year 7 dip'found that while engagement declines through school “in almost every country”, the magnitude “is more pronounced in England”, suggesting disengagement is not just a symptom of age “but something atypical” that is happening in England. schoolsweek.co.uk/revealed-the-s…

Outdated patriarchal moral virtue signalling by any Government sermonising from a disconnected ivory tower about “much needed grit” in our children via the delivery of MHSTs in schools not only devalues and dehumanises the vital work access to counselling in schools affords, it

He was holding a butter knife. Distressed and confused due to an infection in his lower leg. 92 years old. What on earth were these police officers thinking? They easily could’ve removed the flipping butter knife from the man. Good lord. His death was entirely avoidable.

Newsflash: Signing a Department for Education staff wellbeing charter will not suddenly improve staff wellbeing, recruitment or retention. The pressures and expectations of schools and school staff are too high and the support is too little. Fundamental change is needed.

Pupils will not have the words to say what is bothering them, or how they feel in a state of stress or a brain flooded with emotions & overwhelmed, it will usually show up through changes in their behaviour. They will show you before they tell you how they feel.🧠🌱

Unbelievably concerning headlines as plans unfold around the funding, culture and practice with babies, children & young people with additional needs and disabilities. It simply will not be enough to say (or deliver) inclusive practice without investment, training, restoring

The hollowing out of childhood through the relentless pressure to ‘keep up’ with an endless drudge of dry assessment-focussed teaching-to-the-test at home is one of the biggest tragedies to unfold in children’s lives, their homes, and their schools.

When a child is physically ill, we instantly understand. But those who struggle with poor mental health, who have suffered life-changing trauma, who are neuro-diverse, who have special educational needs, who are bullied or exploited, too often end up being labelled & written-off!
