Newly elected President of Library Association Lorna Dodd presented broadcaster Rick O’Shea Rick O'Shea (no longer here) with the 2025 President’s Medal. A wonderful recipient who has done so much for reading in Ireland!

I just arrived in Dublin for the Dublin Literary Award and who should I meet when out for a walk? Oscar rakishly perched on a rock. I love this city and I’m so excited for tomorrow’s #DublinLitAward announcement! šŸ“š

My favourite programme is back on BBC Radio 4, but I’m disappointed not to hear adele geras on Round Britain Quiz. I’m sure Jenny will be great, but Adele and Stuart Maconie were a great team. Still, if I was in the UK I’d happily pay the licence fee for RBQ and In our Time!

A plaque unveiling for accomplished #Artist Jonathan Wade this morning on this home on #walkinstown Avenue Dublin 12. He died tragically young at 31 years in a motorcycle accident. He was driving slowly on a small bike we heard this morning from his friend writer and novelist

#RahenyLibrary took in this book recently, and it's 48 years overdue! Better late than never 😁 Just imagine the look on the librarian's face! #longoverdue #AWOL

Interested in the history of Dublin? Here’s a small project I’ve been working on - streetsbroadandnarrow.ie - that’s just gone live. There’s an awful lot more streets to cover, so it’ll keep me busy for a few years :-) Happy to hear any suggestions for improvement.

Paul is obviously wrong about Monaghan being the best county in Ireland, but his website is a great resource for the history of our capital city. #UptheDubs

#OnThisDay 30 years ago, Irish guitar legend Rory Gallagher died, aged 47. After the funeral, Niall Stokes took a very personal journey back through the music and memories of a friendship with a man he was proud to have known – re-published in full here: hotpress.com/music/remember…

Carmencita Hederman was the 3rd female Lord Mayor. We were delighted that she was at the unveiling of a portrait of the 1sr, Kathleen Clarke, in 2022. Also there were other female Lord Mayors: Emer Costello; Hazel Chu; Caroline Conroy; Mary Freehill, and Alison Gilliland.

Hearing about Charlotte of Mecklenburg on the Napoleonic Wars pod – Dr Zack White – prompted me to write up the entry for Railway Street, 'Mecklenburgh' being one of its previous names. It's a great window into tenement Dublin and the Monto - streetsbroadandnarrow.ie

A harsh assessment of public libraries in the UK. Irish public libraries, by contrast, are thriving and we still issue millions of books every year. As I've said before, we should never say that libraries are 'not just' about books. We should say we are about books and more!
