It has definitely felt like spring is in the air recently, and flowers have been starting to appear! 🌸⛅️ Some of our most popular flowers are early spring flowers, like crocuses, snowdrops, daffodils and primroses all of which can be seen all over the North-East at the moment 🌼

The Tees has always shaped the landscape of Barnard Castle. Overlooked by the 12th-century fortress, the river flows under County Bridge, which has spanned the Tees since 1569. Whether you're exploring history or enjoying the views, the River Tees is at the heart of this town🏰🌊

With the arrival of spring, Himalayan balsam is starting to appear again🌱 We don’t have active work planned for this year but we’re planning for the future, including mapping key areas for future management, planning balsam bashing, and expanding biocontrol sites from 13 to 38!

Let’s play Spring Bingo! ✨🌼 The first day of spring is here, and the catchment is starting to bloom! 🌸🌿 We’ve spotted crocuses, daffodils, cherry blossoms, wild garlic, and some rams enjoying the fresh pastures. The River Tees is looking glorious too! 🌊 What have you seen?

💩Today England’s 2024 sewage spill data was released, and it’s still not good news for rivers. 450,398 discharges were counted. 2023 was bad, and while there were 3% fewer spills last year, in total CSOs discharged raw sewage into rivers for slightly longer - 8,258 hours!

Can you spy the squid we spotted in Hartlepool Dock recently in this video? We’re used to finding all sorts of life in the dock, but we’ve never seen a squid, let alone one this big 🦑 it’s always great to see so much diversity in the dock, which our oysters are contributing to!
