Very pleased to see #ThePriestsWife by A G Rivett reviewed on #HistoricalNovelSociety: beautifully written fantasy that reflects real historical tensions ... contrast between the nature-affirming Celtic faith and nature-denying Catholic

Saw #ShakespeareRiseOfAGenius. Never considered that if he'd been born 20 years earlier there would've been no theatre scene in London for him to join as a 23-year-old stage hand ...

Glad Sharon Rimmelzwaan found the way A G Rivett weaves religion into his novel makes #ThePriestsWife "a layered and interesting read." Even non-religious people ponder religious questions. But, making it more complex, here's a picture of religion being prostituted to power.

It's the last day of Advent, the season of Christmas preparations - a penitential season in the Church calendar, but not in the High St, obviously. I took the month off to post cards instead of 🐦🐦 - until now: the blessings of the season of Peace and Goodwill to you. 🐦 X

To brighten this dark time of year we keep the Christmas lights on our (very nice, artificial) tree all the way through to Imbolc and Candlemas at the start of Feb. Seems they did this in medieval times and it was the Victorians who said it was bad luck. So says English Heritage.

Over the holidays we enjoyed a board game called #Lumination®. It's a coaching tool devised by #HazelRusso and the Play card's given us a New Year resolution - inspiring us to go to work in a playful spirit. I'm trying to remember this as I wrestle with my tax return!

Mystics see the heart not so much as the seat of emotion, but more, as an organ of intuitive wisdom. Reaching from our centre to the whole. A greeting for Valentine's Day. 🐦

“John brilliantly tries to explain modern technology by cutting blades into a slice of turnip to demonstrate how a propellor works” – detail from #BlueInkReview on #TheSeaborne by A G Rivett: a tale of a modern engineer on a medieval island.

On #InternationalWomensDay , Worldʼs End, my latest #Brynglasblog post, tells about producer-director #EurosLewis on the eviction of a farming community to make way for a military firing range on #MynyddEpynt. The Drover's Arms now belongs to the MOD.

The last wee while, the Goddess Epona keeps appearing - she's always with horses. In a lecture by Ralph Heussler on Celtic religion, William Bloom's interview with Caitlin Matthews, a storytelling by Euros Lewis. See my blog #BrynGlasBlog, World's End.

BlueInk Review posted on The Priestʼs Wife by A G Rivett: “... has a deep appreciation of the northern Scottish landscape and successfully captures the cadence of Celtic speech. Readers will look forward to the struggle between old and new that must come in the trilogyʼs finale.”

Heard a Good Friday meditation on #Radio4 that started with the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree. Here's Jonny Gios's atmospheric photo. Food for thought in my latest post at #thebrynglasblog

Just finished reading Elspeth Barker's extraordinary 1991 novel, O Caledonia. What a moving, brilliant picture of a high-achieving girl with more than a touch of Asperger's. An animal-lover who can't bear cruelty, pitted against the World.

The #HistoricalNovelSociety has shortlisted The Shareg by A G Rivett in its #FirstChaptersCompetition. Last book of the #IsleFincaraTrilogy it's still in the cooking pot - but delighted to have this encouragement!
