The aim of the event is to address the financial and non-financial support of young entrepreneurs, Black-owned SMMEs, and professionals seeking to establish their own businesses, through the theme “Empowering The Next Generation of Black Businesses.”

He says SMMEs in the continent account for approximately 90% of all registered companies and contribute significantly to employment. However, the economic and growth potential of SMMEs is constrained by poor access to finance.

According to SEDA's SMME Quarterly and Stats SA, SMMEs contribute to about 59% of total employment in the country. Of this, 27% are the SMMEs themselves, and 73% are the workers they hire.

Godlimpi says the stats demonstrates the need for the government to ramp up its support for SMMEs if it is to achieve its apex priority of inclusive growth and job creation.
