Another great tutorial with the amazing pupils taking part with the The Brilliant Club scholars program. Their thinking, creativity and ideas are going to set them up so well for the things to come in their educational journeys.

Excellent first presentation from my fellow PhD student Jake Macnamara-Hill, talking about the development of rust resistant and higher protein wheat. #BBSRCSpringConf2022

First talk of my PhD completed. Wild wheat relatives can be an exciting resource for improving the wheat genome. As a side note University Park is looking in fine form today. #BBSRCSpringConf2022

Getting ready for the 3rd tutorial with some amazing pupils on the The Brilliant Club scholars program. For anyone looking to expand their outreach, the Brilliant Club is an amazing group to be involved with.

On route home from Niab. We had an amazing day looking at the activities that NIAB conducts in order to support agriculture and horticulture.

Yet to find something quite as satisfying in the lab yet (except maybe getting nice chromosome spreads). Simple minds, simple pleasures.

For the fun of it I decided to see what DALL-E thought of my PhD title too. Nice to see so much diversity at the top and an overwhelming amount of green :)

Just finishing the final tutorial with Year 7 & 8 The Brilliant Club pupils. Some fantastic results! Plus the levels of resilience, determination and integrity that these students have shown are phenomenal. They have 100% inspired me and hopefully the course has also inspired them.

These two leaves may not seem like much, but they represent the first true trait measurements of my PhD! On the left is a leaf suffering from rust. On the right is a wheat line containing a chromosome from a wheat wild relative. Could these wild relatives make wheat resistant?
