"Cost of genome" is reductionist and wrong way to think about research cost Primary use of NGS in practical biotech research is not WGS/WES but reading molecules downstream of some spatial or cellular indexing. Survey experimental cycles using single cell, spatial, epigenetic

Yesterday, the US Health Secretary stated repeatedly he had “not fired any working scientists” and was “not withholding money for lifesaving research". This is completely false. Below is an example of a good friend who not only lost a grant from the NIH earlier this week… 1/n

How does tumour heterogeneity arise? How can we predict cancer cell plasticity? In 2 studies, we trace #glioblastoma heterogeneity to a spatial cancer cell trajectory w. atlassing bit.ly/4mkrWgs & predict plasticity w. snRNA/ATAC+deep learning bit.ly/3FbI6Ic 🧵

Comments returned on a grant application: one commenter said I lacked ML expertise and another wrote such a glowing paragraph about me that I’d like to staple it to my wall to look at when I’m feeling insecure

Making ur data, code, resources more accessible & releasing it all early (eg. with preprints) has huge benefits in the long run. Ur science gets more exposure & has a greater chance of actually being used especially in fast moving fields. 1/5

This is super cool! Projecting cells from high-dimensional space to 2D while preserving proximity relationships is (a) a critical in understanding scRNAseq data and (b) mathematically impossible, yielding a decade of unsatisfying compromises. Brad's tool essentially solves this

In GBM, where survival is measured in months, remission beyond 2 years is extraordinary. CAR-T ASCO updates: 👉 Bryan D. Choi MD PhD MGB Neurosurgery 👉 DrORourke Stephen Bagley Penn Medicine - Abramson Cancer Center show tumor shrinkage, extended survival, and real signs of durability. Let's Build!

This is a major story from #ASCO25. Randomized phase 3 trial of time of day of immunotherapy infusion. Randomized to infusion before or after 3pm. Early infusion far superior: PFS 11.3 vs 5.7 HR 0.42, OS HR 0.45! Impactful, pragmatic, not costly. This should be a bigger story.

Yup. Data curation, sanitization, QC, harmonization & uniform processing with robust & technically robust approaches are absolutely critical to push ML models to the next level. 1/

All convos I've had go something like... Q: What is epigenetic clock? A: Well, we built a predictor of age using epigenetics Q: Isn't it just picking up disease signatures that correlate to aging? A: Oh certainly not, this is a *separate* biological process. Q: So if I improve

As sequence databases get bigger and more diverse, retrieval-based methods provide an interesting alternative to scaling successively bigger protein language models. (1/5)

As part of my The Sick Times piece, we made this timeline summarizing the dizzying changes RFK, Jr. and his colleagues have been making over the past month. With the vax advisory committee meeting in just a few days, it feels like the chaos is the point. (((Dorit Reiss))) Pandemic A. Index
