Gage Coon, undergraduate in my lab, found that methane accumulates in the sulfate-rich zone of Cape Lookout Bight. Apparently the high organic matter loading overwhelms anaerobic methanotrophs and turns them off!

Congratulations to Gage Coon Gage Coon , a microbiology undergrad researcher in the Lloyd lab Karen Lloyd , on receiving the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP)! Next fall, he joins Dr. Tanja Bosak’s lab at MIT pursue his PhD on microbial carbon capture.
