Some on the assisted suicide bill committee have such disregard for disabled people. Even their own. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

The brutal welfare reform plans will impact terminally ill people The assisted suicide bill would apply to someone terminally ill who's making a 'choice' to die. But their reason could be pain or feeling a burden or the suffering from a welfare system which punishes the dying...

In Denmark 2023, their Ethics Council voted by a majority of 16 to 1 that it was: “in principle impossible to establish proper regulation of euthanasia” They recommended to Parliament that the law should not be changed Assisted suicide remains illegal in over 95% of the world

Just rolled in from the Royal Television Society awards... I won the Presenter award for my doc Better Off Dead? Whaaaaaaat? Thanks to Burning Bright The Open University BBC for giving me the chance to explain why me & many other disabled people are terrified of legalising assisted suicide

The Assisted Suicide Bill Committee stage is over Next up is the Report stage after Easter But before then, with the countdown music for Top of the Pops ringing in your ears, take a read of Dan Hitchens thread... "The AS Bill Committee's top 10 worst moments" Not Dead Yet UK

Better Off Dead? Tonight 11.05pm BBC Two I made this documentary to try to open up the often one sided discussion on assisted suicide I explain why me & many other ill/disabled people oppose these laws Whatever your views please give it a watch tonight or on iPlayer Thanks

Assisted suicide should be legal so Brits don't have to go to Switzerland to die? Hmmmm Less than 1/4 travelling to Swiss Death Clinics are terminally ill Even if the AS Bill is legalised over 3/4 of those wanting an assisted suicide will still have to go to Switzerland to die

And now for something completely different... This summer I'll be Kiln Theatre in the fantastic musical play - The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs It's funny, complicated, has singing in it & will be jolly good fun - even for the non lesbians amongst you! kilntheatre.com/whats-on/the-m…

How many friends/family etc have been prosecuted for assisting someone to go to Switzerland for an assisted suicide? Some people are questioned yes & under the Swiss law the Police are required to question those in attendance But how many have been charged & prosecuted? Thanks

In the run up to the next assisted suicide Bill vote we'll hear a lot about pain & suffering But in places where it's already legal, pain doesn't rate highly as a reason for Dr assisted death In my BBC One doc Better Off Dead? I ask the Bill's supporter Lord Falconer his view

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

On Friday MPs will likely vote on whether to proceed the assisted suicide bill Last year the BBC Radio 4 Profile series featured the Bill’s sponsor Today at 12.15 it’s my turn My opposing views & life history are explained via archive & others words bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Assisted suicide is currently a criminal act - it receives legal scrutiny but there's also discretion when appropriate If the current Bill becomes law assisted suicide becomes a medical treatment & all Drs have to do is act in good faith & they'll be indemnified from prosecution

Many disabled people feel that we're fighting for our lives as we oppose the assisted suicide bill If you feel the same, join us on Friday 20th June to tell MPs our views This is why so many of us oppose: bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod… Not Dead Yet UK DPAC Disability Rights UK

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Despite the treatment (or indeed non-treatment) of some older, ill & disabled people during covid, MPs are still contemplating legalising medically assisted suicide Here's a secular explanation of why many of us oppose giving Drs & the state this power: bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If MPs want to give dying people choice then they must 1st offer real end of life care, pain control, choice to die at home, hospice support & palliative care 24/7 in ALL areas of the UK To offer Dr assisted suicide before providing choice at the end of life for ALL is negligent

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

MPs are already eroding away safeguards in the assisted suicide bill being voted on in Parliament today Eg: it's ok if someone feels like a burden & wants to die, mental capacity will be assumed not assessed & the original NHS ethos is essentially being eroded Not Dead Yet UK
