#otd in 1888 the MBA opened it's Citadel Hill laboratory. Here in the archive MBA - Marine Biological Association we have the original photograph of the opening ceremony and an invite to the celebrations, sent to Walter Garstang, a former MBA staff member. We think it must have been a grand day out!

For #EYASustainability and July's #archivedive we have a document about the founding of MBA - Marine Biological Association in 1884. Established to improve knowledge of the impact of fisheries, the MBA continues to lead innovative research into the health of our ocean #MBA140 buff.ly/49NmETR

We loved meeting you yesterday Hannah Rudd - thank you so much for signing the library's copy of your book😊

The sun is shining on us here MBA - Marine Biological Association so we thought, why not share some equally bright illustrations of a striped red mullet and a lumpsucker, taken from Donovan's Natural History of British Fishes, 1808. Have a great day ☀️

#otd in 1872 EA Wilson was born. A doctor, naturalist and artist, Wilson accompanied Robert Falcon Scott on the First National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904. We have a small selection of his watercolours, gifted to Elsie Sexton, a former researcher MBA - Marine Biological Association, in our #archive

Calling all #science writers, we are seeking content for the January issue of #TheMarineBiologistMagazine. 🔬 #Marine biology research 📝 Policy 💼 Careers 🥼 Education Deadline: 11th October 24 Email: [email protected] 🌟 25% off MBA Membership for contributors!

MBA researchers are working together with The Fishmongers' Company, Newcastle University, @Pippa_J_Mooreand and the Kelp Conservation Initiative to develop approaches for kelp #restoration in the UK. ➡️ buff.ly/3Svz1wv #MBA140 #GreenGravel Cat Wilding

#OTD in 1922, Jacques Piccard was born. In the bathyscaphe Trieste, Piccard and Don Walsh were the first to reach the deepest point of the world's ocean - the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. We can't wait to dive into these two books we have in the library MBA - Marine Biological Association

#OTD in 1877 William Beebe was born. An explorer and naturalist, Beebe is perhaps best known for his pioneering bathysphere dive into the ocean depths off Bermuda. We were very excited when we found this letter from him to FS Russell in the MBA - Marine Biological Association #archive

#NationalMarineWeek is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible #Data generated from volunteers and #CitizenScientists, making such a huge difference to scientific research. One success story is the iSeahorse project on iNaturalist 👉 buff.ly/3wgYnqT

For this month's #archivedive and to celebrate #NationalMarineWeek we've found some beautiful illustrations from the archive of former MBA - Marine Biological Association researcher Marie Lebour. Many of the illustrations in the collection have been used as the basis for those in her publications

It's lovely weather again today, so perhaps more sightings to be had DASSH at The Marine Biological Association ☀️

It's #BookLoversDay and we're partial to a good book here in the library MBA - Marine Biological Association. Luckily for us we have over 16,000 books covering a wide range of marine biology subjects to read from! Now we just need to choose one 🤔

It's #ExploreYourArchive day! This month's theme is #EYAJourneys and, travelling from Devon to Australia, for MBA - Marine Biological Association Great Barrier Reef expedition of 1928, must certainly qualify as one! Imagine what these coral reef structures would have looked like in person 🪸

We're a little out of our depth here for #WorldLizardDay but we think this is an illustration of a skink from Rondelet's Libri de Piscibus Marinis, 1554 that can be found in our reading room MBA - Marine Biological Association🦎
