Hundreds of Gannett employees nationwide staged a one-day strike on Monday to demand better pay and new company leadership. Gannett, the country’s largest newspaper chain, owns several NJ newspapers, including the Asbury Park Press and The Record. ow.ly/mHme50OGgOe

This week, hundreds of Gannett journalists wrote to corporate leadership, explaining how the company's dismal pay was hurting them and their newsrooms. Here are some of their stories:

"I live in the red month-to-month." The Record Staff Writer Nicholas Katzban has won scores of awards for his work, yet he has to sell his own possessions and constantly drain his savings to make ends meet.

Management has continually refused their legal obligation to fair bargaining. So if they won't show up to the table, we won't show up to Prime Day ✊

Just spent time with a young man who was going to both be the opening and closing for the major story I was slated to write after the eclipse. I admit, the whole episode saddened me, just because his story is so good. We had a wonderful plan lined up for eclipse coverage. (1/5)
