Are people using the current generation of U-DISE India education data for research? I've only seen very partial datasets posted, and the previous generation of DISE was incredible noisy. I'm curious if this has improved and if people are using it.

📢Official pincode boundaries dropped yesterday! India's open-data ecosystem keeps giving. I know many people who'll have a jump in their step on the way to office today.

This Zvi Mowshowitz post on AI cheating is worthwhile and asks many of the right questions. But he's wrong to conclude that AI means what you learn in college doesn't matter. This really misses the point. College builds brainpower like going to the gym builds muscle. 🧵

In the second part of the series, I suggest 3 steps Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation could take to end the 'great Indian GDP controversy': 1) Release raw data and clear documentation 2) Provide sectoral error margins in each release 3) Set up a national accounts research unit #TruthLiesandStatistics

Amazing work Pratik! This is exactly the kind of contribution we're hoping to get more of for the SHRUG: valuable datasets that unlock lots more research, in this case by connecting all of the SHRUG data to panchayat-level datasets like elections or NREGS.

This is an exceptionally clear data-driven post about immigration and the use of social services in the UK. My read: there is not much evidence that immigrants are straining social services. And if you count doctors and nurses, it's very much the opposite.

People overrate genes as a source of success b/c they don't have good intuition for how flexible early brain development is, and hence how much tiny pieces of nurture can matter. 1/x
