Third years completed their habitat study in Killarney National Park today. They practiced numerous skills such as measuring abiotic factors and carrying out qualitative and quantitative studies.
Our 1st year students took to the Killarney National Park during the week where they explored the many trails and walk ways along with a Kayaking session at Ross Castle and Bunrower. Each day a separate class left the books and computers behind to sample the beautiful scenery
Niamh Hynes, visiting teacher for the Blind and Visually Impaired, gives an experiential workshop to 1F on living with a visual impairment. The students learned how they can help those with a visual impairment but also how they can achieve anything with a 'Can Do' attitude.
John Patrick Doherty, Chaplain for Deaf People for the diocese of Kerry, gave a workshop to TY Students on the history of ISL (Irish Sign Language) to mark ISL Awareness Week. Students were introduced to many basic signs & to the alphabet to promote communication with their peers
Transition year students Group C today had a visit from Maurice, a key worker at Sera Husky Rescue Centre today. Also visiting were two of their beautiful residents - Drifter and Hattie. Achieving a broader understanding of pet ownership is central to their work.
Our TY, 5th & 6th year students gathered in St. Mary's Cathedral today for our Opening of the Year Mass, celebrated by the school patron - Bishop Ray Browne. Under the year theme - "Kindness begins with me" this was our first large gathering in twenty months.
Our senior football panel returned to competitive fare today in Beaufort in the 1st round of The O'Sullivan Cup. Playing the local rivals was the ISK & the Sem were victorious on a score-line of 3:23-1:10. Semi-final -v- Coláiste na Sceilge on Wed next
On Tuesday LCA Year 1 & 2 were visited by Radio Kerry presenter Brendan Fuller. A past pupil of the SEM, he spoke about his career to date and shared with the lads some words of wisdom. Thank you Brendan, we really enjoyed it.
Our U-15 squad came out on top against a strong St Francis College Rochestown team. For the majority of students it was their first time dawning the school jersey & they did themselves proud with a score line of 4-11 to 1-9. They will go on to face CBS The Green in the semi-final
