Jack Burton Julia Wright The U.S. has a law that a ship built outside the U.S. can't stop in a U.S. port unless it has stopped in an international port on its journey. Saint John is the closest to Portland, Boston, New York, so they stop here.

Jake Jack Burton Julia Wright It's called the Jones Act and it was designed to force companies buying ships for domestic use, i.e. ships that would move products from one U.S. port to another, to have those ships built in the U.S.
