Incredibly proud 🇦🇺 exports to Taiwan now stand at A$30.7b -a new high. Taiwan is now our 4th largest export market & we remain Taiwan’s largest energy provider. I thank our businesses, business councils & all our friends. Our partnership makes us both stronger & more prosperous.

The public 🇨🇳rejection of Lu Shaye's remarks, about post-Soviet states on 🇫🇷TV is remarkable yet rational. Ambassador Lu ▪️contradicted 🇨🇳 official position/practice ▪️was (easily to prove) wrong ▪️has a reputation as an undiplomatic provocateur & careless communicator 🧵

China suspends imports of Taiwan mangoes due to alleged ‘harmful pest’. Another case of PRC arbitrary import bans. This action is aimed at influencing Taiwan’s election. #economiccoercion. globaltimes.cn/page/202308/12…

Central America parliament expels Taiwan, makes PRC a permanent observer. Parlacen cited UN's 1971 expulsion of Taiwan, claiming it deemed Taiwan a "province of mainland China." Yet, UN Res. 2758 did not determine the status of Taiwan or define its role. gmfus.org/news/distortio…

After returning to China earlier this year to reconnect with a country where I've lived for 20 years, my overall impression is that it's never been more (self) isolated than at any point in the past 45 years. Read my full account Foreign Affairs foreignaffairs.com/china/xi-jinpi…

At 7 pm, the size of the protest has grown exponentially, stretching across several blocks. A lot of people are clearly arriving straight from work. Many in the crowd are holding up signs criticizing the opposition parties of lack of transparency and trampling democracy. #Taiwan

Very exciting & grateful to be at the protest outside Taiwan's legislature today, as people come to protest against the legislature for wanting to push through a law that will give it over reaching powers to presecute others. Organizers say over 30,000 people are at the protest!
