Irum Irum ๐ŸŒป draws on her lived experience to remind us that letting patients know that someone is there and really cares is a more important approach to managing risk. Regardless of professional backgrounds, we can all do this! At our 24/7 Neighbourhood Mental Health Centres

Prof Keith Hawton says it straight: the evidence tells us that relying on risks assessments donโ€™t work! 82% of the people who kill themselves within MH services, had a most recent risk assessment rated at zero or low risk. At our 24/7 Neighbourhood Mental Health Centres panel

โ€œDon't put the service or organisational concerns ahead of patient needs". Deb Moore describes how the focus of MH services in relation to risk has changed over time but what hasn't changed is a pressure on staff to defend the service. We need to take a hard look at the context

Tim Kendall CBE Well, one thing I agree on ! Added are RAs for violence. Mr Calocane in Nottingham would have scored low/moderate risk on OxMIV - strongly promoted as a new RA tool. But whether the new emergency clinic/day hospitals can reduce violence or suicide risk remains to be seen

17 yrs ago I asked the Sheffield team to restrain me - and filmed it. It was tough but safe when face up. Today, with Human Rights Watch (and me) being restrained - this is the best and kindest restraint we have seen! All trained in depth in human rights protection, they are

Tim Kendall CBE This is great, Tim. But how do you get every inpatient unit to practice like this when some are still overly reliant on PRN as a tool to de-escalate or are too quick to put hands on a patient because they've just finished their MAPPA or C&R course ๐Ÿค”

Psychiatry Capitalist Fraud Tim Kendall CBE Iโ€™ve used that restraint position and while itโ€™s one of the more humane and dignified for all involved, unfortunately you are vulnerable to being spat at, in the face by the person in the middle. I sadly can attest to that. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Yesterday we hosted Karolina Kozik and Kriti Sharma, from Human Rights Watch, for a visit to our services. We discussed our innovative approaches, such as developing a new 24 hour community mental health centre, efforts to reach people from ethnically diverse backgrounds and our respect training.๐Ÿ’™

Thatโ€™s so ridiculous. Wealthy people currently can choose to travel to Switzerland. This new law will mean that not just the wealthy will have the right!
