Why it's a good day to take someone birding for the first time. In #ldnont · blue sky, no wind, temperature okay · bare trees make birds easy to see · fewer bird names to learn than during migration · by tomorrow, they'll be an experienced birder

One of my favourite birding patches has been targeted for restoration by the city of #LondonOnt. First two pics are from 2021 (June, then September). Third pic is from today. The city aims to create habitat for Wood Thrushes, frogs, and amphibians. It’s a long-term goal!

I had a fun time exploring Kemptville today for its second-ever Christmas Bird Count. My friend Jacob Lasci and I put in an inefficient but thorough 1100 steps per species. I hope to make this CBC part of an annual tradition.

Do Toronto sports fans who think that Morgan Rielly did the right thing also think that Matt Bush and Rougned Odor were justified in what they did to Jose Bautista after his bat flip? I don’t think it’s possible to be on Rielly’s side without also supporting the Rangers’ actions

Students in Biology 2290 are growing corn, wheat, and soy to see how soil influences growth. We have pretty good growth in 1 week!

A job for an Ecologist Planner has opened up with the City of London in Ontario. I've been on a committee with the person leaving the position (she was promoted), and it looks like a fun and challenging position for an ecology grad. Consider applying. careers.london.ca/job/London-Eco…

The Biodiversity Inventory at Western started in April 2022, and with great participation from the Western University community, we have documented many species found on campus. My collaborators Peter Baker and Brendon wrote a paper with me about the project. mdpi.com/2673-7159/4/3/…

Congratulations to #westernu honour’s biology thesis students. My student, Madelaine Picard, won an award for her talk on the biotic resistance hypothesis to explain the invasion of European Green Crabs to coastal British Columbia.
