Cowboys end a comedy-of-errors drive with a Brandon Aubrey FG. Rams, 14-3. Five penalties on the Cowboys, including two illegal formations on Asim Richards. Rams had three penalties.

Nice grab by Jalen Brooks for a first down. He was much improved this week in camp.

First half ends with the Aubrey FG. Rams, 14-6. A sloppy affair in all three phases for the Cowboys. Too many penalties. Defense beat on the first two drives. Joe Milton took awhile to settle in.

Pretty athletic play by Israel Mukuamu there for that pick. Not sure how he came up with it but a good recovery after the receiver had a step on him.

Looked like Joe Milton had a chance for the first down on 4th and 3. Foot was OB a yard short.

Third quarter ends. Rams lead, 17-6, and driving. They'll open the fourth quarter at the Cowboys 13. Do the Cowboys stick with Milton the whole way or does Will Grier get a look?

Joe Milton with a nice throw to the back pylon to TE Rivaldo Fairweather, who does a good job getting his feet down. 7-yard TD. After 2-point play it's 24-14.

Cowboys OL Saadiqh Charles is out with a knee injury.

Cowboys open the preseason with a 31-21 loss to the Rams. They have lost seven straight preseason openers now.

Brian Schottenheimer said Joe Milton bruised his elbow. Will get more tests but he thinks Milton will be ok.

Brian Schottenheimer on the game in general: “It wasn’t the storybook beginning.” Lamented the lack of discipline, mistakes. Liked the effort but it has to be about more than effort

OL Saahdiq Charles suffered a hyperextended knee that knocked him out of Saturday's game vs. the Rams in the second half, according to a source. He will undergo more testing on Sunday. Cowboys don't return for a full practice until Tuesday.

Brian Schottenheimer: “I hope the guy’s OK. They said he’s OK, the official that he ran into, but we have to be better than that. CeeDee knows better. We know better.”

Joe Milton III on his elbow: “Just two players collided into my elbow. I’m pretty fine. Probably just a contusion. I’ll be good.”

Brian Schottenheimer said he became a little emotional as he entered SoFi Stadium for the first game of his head coaching career. "I'll remember this day for a long time. Not the result we wanted but first time out there as a head coach, it felt pretty cool."

Joe Milton’s grade for himself: “D, probably a D minus if I’m being hard on myself … I just gotta settle down early and make all those throws.” He said the OL, WRs, TEs did a great job but he needed to be better.

Asked the coach about this. Said he wanted to get points and Cowboys got the ball to open the second half. A chance to double dip. Played it more like he would in a regular-season game.
