Todays light southerly breeze and drizzle delivered a small arrival of migrants Fair Isle Bird Observatory. A lovely male Ring Ouzel showed unusually well for this typically shy species. However, my highlight was watching a Grasshopper Warbler scurry up and down a small burn on Ward Hill!

This beautiful smoky 'Blue' Fulmar is one of three birds present around the isle Fair Isle Bird Observatory. This individual is a returning bird and defends a ledge near the cliff top at Furse allowing excellent views.

Todays highlight Fair Isle Bird Observatory was this lovely male Eastern Subalpine Warbler. It spent the afternoon showing intermittently around Schoolton.

Arctic Skuas are starting to return back to Fair Isle Bird Observatory. Watching them cut about the island in high speed purists with one another is brilliant. Such agile, elegant birds.

This stunning Red Knot well and truly lives up to its name! It showed nicely whilst foraging amongst the rocks on Skadan. Not long until it completes the transition into its spring finery. Fair Isle Bird Observatory

Some settled weather was all that was needed to deliver a few nice birds to Fair Isle Bird Observatory. This lovely male Bluethroat was my highlight of the day. A Wood Warbler, Hawfinch and the first Spotted Flycatcher of the year were some of the other arrivals.

A thoroughly enjoyable day Fair Isle Bird Observatory. Lots of highlights which included, Western Subalpine Warbler, Grey-headed Wagtail, Turtle Dove, Wood Warbler and Common Buzzard!

This beautiful Bee-eater spent the afternoon zipping around the south end of Fair Isle Bird Observatory. It put on a brilliant show and was enjoyed by many of the islands residents.

This gorgeous Arctic bound Curlew Sandpiper dropped on to Da Water Fair Isle Bird Observatory this morning. I rarely see them besides autumn juveniles so I thoroughly enjoyed this brick red stunner!

Awesome views of an Arctic Skua pair hunting along the south coast Fair Isle Bird Observatory. One would harass an Oystercatcher pair whilst the other would hover and even walk around along the shoreline/clifftop presumably looking for the nest. Brilliant to watch.

The lovely male Red-throated Pipit continues its stay on the heather above Wirvie Burn. When not chasing or being chased by Meadow Pipits it can show really well. Fair Isle Bird Observatory

This lovely Rustic Bunting was mobile around the ditches between Upper Stoneybrek and Barkland. It saved what was on track to be another underwhelming day for late May Fair Isle Bird Observatory. Hopefully, a change from northerly winds this coming weekend will shake things up a bit.

This Red-breasted Flycatcher was trapped in Plantation on this mornings early trap round. Sadly not a red male but can't complain when they have one of the best tails around. Fair Isle Bird Observatory

This gorgeous male Bluethroat was trapped in Plantation this afternoon. Such a nice bird to see up close. Fair Isle Bird Observatory

Arctic Terns are back Fair Isle Bird Observatory in force with a number already incubating. They're such an elegant species that are lovely to watch. Fingers crossed they don't have to endure too many challenges and come late summer the colonies are full of noisy juveniles.
