Just noticed this in the Edinburgh airport gents. Is GoJo's apparent expansion from tech to hygiene products a way to deflect from the dodgy India numbers? How will this affect the Waystar deal?

Frome station's blue plaque claiming a bit of Bloomsbury Group stardust seems a bit of a reach (Leonard Woolf happened to be staying nearby with a friend from Cambridge at the time).

Our magisterial second annual Translation Focus, the cover of which raises the immediate question: where can I buy Karin Smirnoff's incredible cardi?

Btw, a fact I learned interviewing Maud Ventura was that French publishers only accept physical submissions (she posted 10 MSs on the same day to different houses). On a sustainabilty, cost to strugging writers etc just absolute...folie.

I haven't re-read Blood Meridian as much as other favourite books (it's a bit too full on and I have nightmares about the judge for days) but passages are imprinted in my brain, not least the ending paragraph. RIP Cormac McCarthy.

You realize @usmnt jt batson better managers are available? Leaving out the blinkered tactics, head-scratching subs, Reynagate etc - rehiring someone who admitted domestic violence (no matter how old he was or his relationship with her since) is astonishingly offensive.

Not 100% sure what to read into this. HC was the second-biggest publisher in Ireland last year through BookScan (9% of the market). I guess the vast marjority of that was UK & US originated titles. Seems slightly odd, though, when others (Bonnier for ex) are coming into Ireland.

A very important thread! Thanks to this year's amazing list of Rising Stars! Please give them your congrats. Heck, if you are their employer, why not give them a pay rise?

Congratulations to all Rising Stars, just unveiled by The Bookseller. "The Class of 2023 are united by a desire to grow readerships (...) and, perhaps more tellingly, a will to improve the industry’s duty of care to staff." We can't wait to see Shooting Star Maria Garbutt-Lucero at #fbm23!

A nice angle, but J K Rowling (writing as Robert Galbraith) was the UK's top selling female crime writer last year (ÂŁ3.1m to Jackson's ÂŁ2.9m per Nielsen BookScan).
