1/6 I am sad that Hakai Magazine will cease publication at the end of 2024, but remember—we have some stellar stories coming for the next five months. Also, it’s vital to keep things in perspective.

2/6 For almost 10 years I’ve had the privilege of working with a talented, generous, and fun team of people—Hakai Magazine, for sure, but also Tula and Hakai Institute.

3/6 Together, we hold a holiday party each year, complete with games like “tests of strength”; monthly we meet up at the pub, order deep-fried pickles, and meme about fried pickles; many of my colleagues enthusiastically participate in my annual lasagna bake-off.

4/6 And, one Hakai Institute colleague is hosting the wedding reception of a Hakai Magazine staff member. What a beautiful crew.

5/6 Plus, in a seasoned decade of my career I’ve had the chance to work with the most talented of writers and editors. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am for that opportunity. Because of that, I’m a better editor and better writer. And my writing community has grown.
