S. Trent Rosenbloom In all honesty, as a patient and caregiver, I want access to them right away, in my portal. Immediate access. And to see them or pull them up whenever I need to refer to them in the future. Nuvance Health does this now, I’m pretty sure.

S. Trent Rosenbloom It’s incredibly important that patients can access all of their data, especially images in a timely manner! (See info blocking rule re EHI) Putting images in the portal will make that easier for everybody. See John Lynn story about my recent info blocking incident re images

S. Trent Rosenbloom Personal anecdote - had an out of town incident at an ER and needed to get radiology images when back home for a follow up, and I couldn’t get them through MyChart. Ended up having to request a CD to be physically sent which seemed silly when everything else is on the portal.

S. Trent Rosenbloom It’s patient data, physicians can have concern but doesn’t change the underlying principle. If patients wants follow up requesting more time from the doctor that they are charged for it. Calculate the average hourly reimbursement based on typical wRVU mix and reading time. Set

S. Trent Rosenbloom We work w/ many health systems that have successfully image-enabled their patient portals with SSO integration. They've seen high patient adoption with minimal impact on radiologists. We’d love to connect you with them. What’s the best way to get in touch? bit.ly/4h38YXU

S. Trent Rosenbloom John Lynn Anna McCollister OpenNotes CT Lin PocketHealth Hey Christopher A. Longhurst, MD: Did UC San Diego Health end up sharing images in the portal? Know anyone who has? See convo above. 👆

Liz Salmi S. Trent Rosenbloom John Lynn Anna McCollister OpenNotes CT Lin PocketHealth UC San Diego Health Yes UC San Diego Health shares radiology images in our portal using Intelerad (formerly Ambra). It has been very well received by patients, is an efficiency for the hospital since it can replace CD distribution, and has not taken additional radiologist time.

S. Trent Rosenbloom Christopher A. Longhurst, MD John Lynn Anna McCollister OpenNotes CT Lin PocketHealth UC San Diego Health Intelerad I can’t speak to the UC San Diego Health/Christopher A. Longhurst, MD experience, but I do know UCSF Health has been doing it longer, and pre-Cures Rule. However, a new California-specific law prevents the release of cancer results until the ordering clinician allows it (SB 1419).

This study found patients more commonly refreshed their portal for highly sensitive results (eg, biopsy); refresh behavior while awaiting nonsensitive results was linked with a higher probability of patient-initiated messaging. ja.ma/4lizoZ3 Scott MacDonald, MD, FACP FAMIA 🇺🇸.bs
