Teaching Progression: Break the whole in to phases, own each phase before moving on to next phase, and then put it all together. It’s not FAST, sexy, or entertaining. It’s INTENTIONAL work. A high school / youth player NEEDS to learn how to focus and feel. #ELITEMindset

Sprint mechanics are dynamic, not static. Joint positions shift based on intent, output, & task demand, not just some idealized shape. This infographic series breaks down how joint angles change across sprint phases, why shapes ≠ force, & where coaches tend to go wrong.

If it doesn't make an athlete more explosive, accelerate better, reach a higher top speed faster (same as accelerate?), or move better...I DO NOT TRAIN IT OR TRACK IT. Can athletes be strong enough? Fast enough? Agile enough? How do I determine? That is my rabbit hole.

From a HS šŸˆ coach: I decided to actually study one of our senior football players on film. I broke down all 10 football games and charted the number of plays that he was on the field defensively throughout a game, and I also timed each play (snap to whistle) in which he was

Mj Myles Conditioning does not build ā€œmuscular capacityā€. It builds slow endurance. Patiently stacking high-speed game-like reps will improve your capacity to do those things longer. You don’t get fast at the 100, 200, & 400 by running 40 miles a week.

If the game is played between 12-17 mph, how many athletes truly work on what it takes and feels to get to that speed and how to change directions within the same speed zone a variety of ways. I just wonder.

How we teach blocking a 2nd Level Defender at 5AS1 OL Training!! ā€œSQUARE IS STRONGā€ Andrew Ryland #hogfbchat Things to look for: Movement Prep: Drive & Replace stolen from Duke Manyweather āœ…driving away with backside foot, then it replaces itself under the hip, it’s our gas pedal.

There is a MASSIVE energy cost to football games/padded practices The collisions increase metabolic rate ~10+% Mainly in the form of CHO When CHO intake isn't adequate muscle and structural tissue is degraded to meet this need which delays recovery and increases injury risk

Dehydrated vs hydrated athletes have... ~Double the increase in metabolic rate after training (+25% vs 12.8%) ~Double the decrease in HRV (-34.8% vs -18.9%) Individualized and targeted rehydration should ALWAYS be a priority for athletes after training PMID: 25726222

If you are a coach who still clings to an endurance-based approach to football, you might want to consider what Charlie Francis learned FORTY YEARS AGO. ā¤µļø Charlie Francis put Johnson's improvement in 1985 down to two major changes he made in his coaching. The first was

Football season is coming so let’s talk conditioning. ā€œIn Shapeā€ is a complex term that encompasses a variety of qualities: -Aerobic Conditioning -Work Capacity -Repeated Sprint Ability -Energy System training -Heat Acclimation 🧵to address each so your team is ready this fall
