The older I get (I'm 45) the more I realise that the greatest threat to my existence is not AI, or some well-funded competitor. The far greater threat is me slipping in the bathroom and cracking my head on the counter.

Upcoming release of Athens includes our first section built with nested theme blocks. Itโ€™s called Link index, made for hardware stores and merchants who need long lists of links. As long as I own these themes, a hard rule stays: only targeted blocks, up to 3 levels deep.

Today marks my first year as an Athenian. I was born here but hadn't spent much time. If I weren't working from home, I wouldn't even consider it. The paradox of choice is kicking hard.

No real need to learn Rust, but I'll be pushing pixels for a project where it'll be all over our team chats. So I thought I'd get the basics and see what it's all about. What better way than to mess around with some system info stuff? ๐Ÿ˜

Building a WordPress block is still not easy at all. If you think itโ€™s easy, you have probably forgotten about your first edit (directly in core), no build step involved. Also try building a Shopify section and see whatโ€™s easy in 2025. All you need is a cli and one command ๐Ÿคท

1 new Shopify Athens theme preset (finally) 100% ready to be release this week. 2 more (1 for Maranello and 1 for Tokyo) will be released at some point in September. 2 more interviews with merchants scheduled for September too. Still in no shoes mode. ๐Ÿ˜„

Athens 6.1 is out, and among other cool things, we made sure that AI sections get the same set of global settings as the rest of the theme sections. Keep them within the theme grid, make them full-width, adjust the outer spacing and visibility for desktop and/or mobile. Sweet!

One mistake support people make with unreasonable theme users is trying the "at your service master" approach. Donโ€™t. Be kind, be professional, but stand your ground. Itโ€™s your court, your rules.

Oh no, definitely not a bot. 16 years in and my support partner is like a monk. He runs his own thing within our business, a state within a state. He will take good care of our customers, keep an eye on the development of the themes and move on with his life ๐Ÿ˜

Maranello 5.1 is on its way. Partner is pushing a bit these days just to make sure we have super stable versions before the end of the month. BFCM period is for watching merchants succeed, not chasing bugs.

Still in the works but the 2nd Athens Shopify meetup will take place early October (Exact date TBA). I want this one to be all about merchants and local market quirks. Think ERP integrations, myData, BestPrice/Skroutz feeds etc.

Throughout the years I have built more than 200 theme demo sites. It's a nerve wracking process but quite possibly the most important one. These days I'm automating the shit out of every little thing that doesn't matter. n8n is fantastic btw.

2 versions ago we migrated our Shopify themes to the new color schemes system. We developed a small utility where users could map their old colors to the new default color schemes and move on with their lives. Zero problems so far.

We are usually ready many days before the actual deadline, but this is August we are talking about and we always take things easier. Got some rest and managed to prepare all 3 themes for the BFCM season. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐ŸคŒ

Boomer friend spends 3 hrs at the hardware store comparing screwdrivers then uses it twice in 5 yrs? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Now they can do the same on your store. Here's how to add a comparison table in Athens (and boost time on site).

Decided to push an update for my WooCommerce themes and also add some styles for the Brands shortcodes. This is the output of the shortcode [product_brand_thumbnails] (top) and [product_brand_thumbnails_descriptions) (bottom). I guess I won't be adding any styles after all.
