Auckland Transport decided to disable my HOP card in the middle of a trip this morning. The website says it could be a few days before automatic top-up works, but we aren't allowed to wait until then, which is annoying. Also, there's no way to tell how much top-up there will be

Every single voting place that is being used on election day is open from 9am to 7pm. Every single one. Early voting places have different hours. There are some voting places that are only being used on election day, and some that are only being used as advance voting places.

I have submitted on multiple occasions that the rules around candidates who die after nominations have closed should be changed. It's an FPP hangover that is unnecessary (and distorting) in a proportional MMP system.

I wrote a thing explaining: first, how easy New Zealand makes it to vote, but second, asking how we might make it slightly easier for people in rural areas.

If you want to ban public polling you are essentially calling for an increase in information asymmetry favouring political parties and their chosen insiders & surrogates These people already enjoy informational advantages which let them exercise influence. They don't need more

A basic guesstimate of how the special votes might play out. National may lose two seats overall. There's a overhang at present, but it could be gone as Te Pāti Māori does really well on special votes. Also contains analysis of the two close Māori seats. publicaddress.net/legalbeagle/el…

NZ Loyal supporter Ken Duncan has announced that he is preparing an affidavit that will show the party was robbed of votes due to software used by voting machines. He's not deterred by the fact NZ doesn't use voting machines.

Filling in a form that won't allow me to put "Biostatistics" as the discipline for my PhD, but would allow "Beekeeping" or "Boilermaking and Welding"

For comparison, an analysis that also accounts for epidemic dynamics (which may bias conversion of prevalence to incidence with simple division-based method) estimated about 1.2 infections per person on average between spring 2022 and spring 2023: epiforecasts.io/inc2prev/report

The rapid increase in covid in NZ wastewater seems to match a rapid increase in cases reported at the start of the week. Heads up everyone

Richard Prebble has an nzherald article about voter enrolment. The first problem is that he uses a description of voter enrolment law as he remembers it from the mid-1980s. Except Prebble himself voted to reverse this in 1989. It's not the only problem. nzherald.co.nz/business/elect…
