A wonderful new resource for exploring the multi-faceted Esther Inglis, daughter of #Huguenot parents who emigrated from France to Scotland in the sixteenth century.

#Holst150 #125: Chrissemas Day in the Morning H. 165 Op. 46/1 (1926) I'm listening to every Holst piece I can find in the order he composed them. These three little piano pieces are sorely-needed solace on a dark and gloomy morning. /1 youtu.be/a25fmo_jCHo?si…

Orders in Council have been refreshed to feature the Tudor Crown. The four motifs of the UK (rose, leek, shamrock and thistle) are also better defined than before.

On our way home from a wonderfully varied concert by Muses of Ukraine, including #GustavHolst’s Four Songs for Voice and Violin. Although challenging to perform they were much performed in his lifetime and he thought he had come close to his quest to wed his music to words.

One of a number of aspects of daughter #ImogenHolst’s biography of Gustav Holst which needs revision was her assertion that his socialism was never very deep. There is considerable archival evidence that it was. Looking forward to tomorrow’s lecture too.

#otd 1929 the centrepiece for the housewarming of Louise Dyer’s Paris penthouse was the premiere of #GustavHolst150’s Humbert Wolfe Songs. The party gifts were his Rig Veda hymns and the differently innovative Four Songs for Voice and Violin. More to enjoy ⁦Holst Victorian House⁩.

Wonderful performance of #GustavHolst150’s 2 piano version of The Planets in the normally quiet-ish Rare Books and Music room ⁦British Library⁩. An unexpected chance to see one of his MS scores too. Bravo to all concerned for a wonderful experiment to be repeated soon.

My first journal article is published! It tells of a woman lost to history who spoke against enslavement hours before Wilberforce’s 1st abolitionist speech. Secret spy reports & newspapers reveal the challenges women faced in public speaking. Read it here: tandfonline.com/eprint/TKAETDB…

Composer & pianist Fanny Mendelsssohn was born #OTD in 1805 - surely one of the most extraordinary composers to have published so little in her own lifetime. Thank goodness her scores are being given a new lease of life now - here's her Piano Trio: open.spotify.com/track/2H3BWku5…
