If religion lends itself to being “weaponized” or becoming a “tool” for nefarious political purposes, surely there’s something about it that makes it work well as such.

Ironically, many religious people have less hesitation about drawing direct connections between theologies and the political worldviews they contribute to. Secular defenders of religious have this strange tendency of simultaneously looking down on and defending religious people.
