With a budget of ~$47.4B, the NIH is by far the biggest supporter of biomedical research worldwide. Grants are reviewed periodically by committees of experts outside of the NIH. When these study sections are cancelled, it prevents grants from being reviewed & funded.

At which point they get another layer of review. Depending on the specific agency where you're submitting, your "payline" - the % of proposals recommended for funding - might be as low as 7%, which means that you have to do better than 93% of proposals submitted that cycle

In total d/t the Trump administration JHU stands to lose 1 billion dollars in funding. JHU isn’t perfect, but I don’t think I would be a doctor today if I didn’t have the opportunity to do medical research via NIH funded grants. So disappointing insidehighered.com/news/quick-tak…
