World Skills Uganda (WSU) and UHTTI have committed to working together to scale up the National Hospitality Skills Competition. In a meeting held at the institute campus in Jinja on Friday, April 11th, the duo shared ideas on hospitality skills best practices.

Hospitality department trounces Tourism and Pastry departments in the annual UHTTI debating competition organized by the institute's Business & Language departments under the theme; Generalized education system provides more opportunities than the specialised system.

UHTTI and the Kasese-based UWRTC have discussed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two partner institutes. The cooperation will go a long way in improving the training of the hospitality workforce in the country.

UHTTI has joined scores of TVET institutions that are currently exhibiting as part of activities to mark the International Education Day 2025. The day is being marked under the theme;Promoting an Employer-led TVET system that is effective, efficient and market-oriented.

UHTTI has signed an MOU with Kenya's BOMA International Hospitality College as part of efforts aimed at enhancing hospitality and tourism training in the region. The two institutions will partner in joint research, staff and students exchange as well as capacity building.

UHTTI and Enabel, a Belgian agency for international cooperation, have signed a 260,000 euros (UGX1.1b) grant agreement to support skills training at the institute. The grant will cover staff and curriculum dev't, ICT, gender mainstreaming and collaboration with industry actors.

UHTTI students pursuing Certificate and Diploma in Tour Guiding and Tourism Management respectively on Sunday, July 27th, commenced their mandatory paramilitary training. The 3-weeks training that will end on August 15th equips students with skills needed to operate in the wild

Tourism ministry and UHTTI officials have held a meeting with sector stakeholders aimed at assessing the progress of the ministry apprenticeship program and soliciting feedback from the industry actors. A total of 150 apprentices are undergoing skilling at UHTTI.

UHTTI has today, Tuesday 16th September, 2025 held a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop at Hotel Africana in Kampala aimed at seeking views of stakeholders as regards to the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan which is currently in its final drafting stage.

UHTTI is training food vendors and restaurant operators in Arua city as part of activities to celebrate the World Tourism Day. The day will be marked on Saturday, September 27th at the Arua Golf Course under the theme; Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.

UHTTI has today hosted chefs association presidents from Ghana, Togo and Botswana who were at the college to discuss African Gastronomy with the students. The chefs are in the country to attend the East African Culinary Fusion 2025, an event geared at promoting Ugandan cuisine.
