It’s the holiday season: if you’re going away in the UK please remember to submit records of any rare breeding birds you encounter. Watch the video to see how you can help, particularly in the more remote areas in the north and west where there are gaps in coverage

Exciting news from Wyre Forest NNR, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker nest cavities viewed by Ken & Linda Smith with endoscope on 2 May. Female incubating 7 eggs (not all visible in photo) in one and 6 tiny chicks just hatched at 2nd nest. Well done Natural England staff for finding.

A new (2 part) video with 3 pointers to making your birding and recording more valuable for the RBBP, and thus for the conservation of rare breeding birds. We’ll post a summary version for those who don’t want to watch the whole thing!

DUCKS: by now most ducks will have settled at potential breeding sites. So all records of scarce & rare breeding ducks, including Shoveler, Wigeon, Garganey, Pintail, Pochard and Red-breasted Merganser, should be submitted, with breeding evidence, to the relevant county recorder
