Yelwata, Guma LGA was attacked last night and over 100 families fled to Makurdi needing urgent assistance. @UNHCRNigeria provided basic items such as blankets, sleeping mats and water containers and will begin assessment and registration of households today.

In the Niger floods last week, @UNHCRNigeria reached over 1,000 of the most vulnerable families with emergency kits, helping them stay warm, have light and remain safe. This is what #WorldRefugeeDay is about. No matter where, no matter when, we stay and deliver.

Overnight 273 people arrived at Ichwa IDP Camp leaving their homes in Yelwata, Benue due to safety concerns, sleeping in the camp's school. UNHCR Nigeria and partners are offering them basic items, blankets, mats, solar lamps etc and will asses for other needs.

UNHCR signed a bilateral collaborative framework MOU with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and 3 tripartite MOUs with the Ministry and the Borno State Govt for the implementation of sustainable projects based on vocational training centers and an irrigation project in Gwoza and Bama LGAs.

Many - including children - said that their whole families were brutally killed in the attacks in #Yelewata #Benue ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ They fled with just the clothes on their backs. @UNHCRNigeria was there that night to help them. They want to return home when itโ€™s safe. UNHCR will be there.
