It would be reasonable to conclude that the 2 most inspirational cities in the world right now in city-building for people are Paris & Montreal. It might be the french culture for place-making and civic sociability. On the other hand, it might be about 2 progressive women mayors.

What is the point of a pilot if you're going to change it before data's collected? What's the point of a car free pedestrianised area if the days it's car free are arbitrarily changed? Like how is anybody supposed to know when they can enjoy it?

Sarah Kirby-Yung 楊瑞蘭 As much as I rag on Old Spaghetti Factory this was their patio last night at 9pm, inside was also packed. Have they shown proof business is down? Or are cynically attempting to try and squeeze concessions out of the city because you made a change? Please govern on more than vibes

Just in time for Vancouver Pride, Downtown Van has installed a very creative "Art Overhead" Pride poem public art installation at Robson Square's plaza. Don't just look up, but also look down at how it casts vibrant readable reflections onto pavement. dailyhive.com/vancouver/down…

Meanwhile, the most pressing transportation priority in probably the entire country--Skytrain to UBC--is just a fantasy. Ending the Skytrain at Arbutus is going to be such a gong show, and at this point we'll be stuck with it for a decade...in a best case scenario!

If you haven’t yet had the chance to experience the mygastown pedestrian pilot, tonight is a fantastic evening for it! Expanded patios are packed 🍻 , it’s finally stopped raining 👍🏻 and the temperature is just right. Let me know what you think of the pilot below. 👇🏻 #vanpoli

Two high streets in Vancouver. One of them banned cars and the other did not. Which of the two would you rather spend your time? If it’s the first one you should fill out this feedback survey before sept 2nd because council is putting the cars back 🫠 shapeyourcity.ca/gastown-public…

Now that the Gastown Pedestrian Pilot is over, I can’t help but feel bittersweet. I’m happy that it happened but I’m sad that it’s now gone and I’m concerned that myopia could get in the way of making Gastown better. Here are my thoughts on what should come next: 1/x

18-storey social housing projects coming to Dunbar? First look at Vancouver's proposal to fast-track affordable housing projects 6 to 18 storeys in certain areas, without rezonings. This would include co-ops, mixed-income buildings & supportive housing: vancouversun.com/opinion/column…

It’s interesting how a lot of opposition to things like pedestrian streets comes from people who lack basic information about how they work. “How do you do deliveries, huh?” Well, pedestrian streets exist in lots of cities around the world and they do in fact get deliveries.

This video was taken after the removal of the Stanley Park bike lane in 2023, after which, we saw a significant increase in congestion on the Seawall. We are seeing worrying trends in places like Ontario and even in Vancouver with active travel infrastructure being curtailed or
