USAID’s LGP empowers women to strengthen biodiversity conservation in the Bismarck Forest Corridor (BFC) of #PapuaNewGuinea. 1-2 Feb 2023, Research Conservation Foundation and USAID trained 26 women in Simbu to improve the natural resource management of the BFC.

On May 30, target communities from Murukunam in Madang Province, PNG signed a Conservation Deed. Total of 7,400 hectares of customary land is now part of an environment protection management area. USAID LGP witnessed the signing. #Biodiversity #Conservation

USAID PNG Lukautim Graun Program is supporting the World Environment Day, World Oceans Day and Coral Triangle Day by presenting over 600 shirts to the PNG Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA). #worldenvironmentday @usaidpacificislands

USAID PNG LGP joined in the celebrations observing World Oceans Day and Coral Triangle Day on June 8 and 9 respectively with 2023 theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The celebrations ended with a beach-front clean-up. LGP team, headed by COP, Tom Pringel joined in the clean- up.

USAID LGP supported over 115 women from mine impacted communities in Ramu Nico Mining area in Madang Province, PNG to access financial literacy training. The training empowers women to promote savings culture and improve household finances to sustain them beyond the mine life.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through its PNG Lukautim Graun Program (LGP), supported 30 people, including 24 women from Nubia village in the Bogia district of Madang Province, to access financial literacy training (FLT). @usaidlgp

USAID through PNG LGP aims to enhance opportunity for women in PNG to participate in, and benefit equitably from economic opportunities provided. In partnership with DOERS Agro Services, LGP conducted poultry farming training for 13 women and 6 men in Madang Province.

USAID in partnership with CEFI is increasing financial literacy, with emphasis on women in rural communities in PNG. Trainers certified by CEFI and supported by USAID’s LGP, helped train 60 participants. Thirty-five participants graduated with certificates in financial literacy.

USAID LGP works to protect PNG’s rich biodiversity with awarding of small grants to reduce threats to biodiversity, strengthen landowner’s rights and promote women’s economic empowerment. MAKATA, a grant recipient trained communities to protect species of leatherback turtles.

During P&R, LGP and IPs identified key successes, challenges and options for adaption in its final year of implementation. Country Representative for PNG, SI and Vanuatu, Nino Nadiradze, addressed the need for balance of conservation and natural resources as part of objectives.

USAID LGP, supported CEPA PNG to host 9th Marine Protected Areas Regional workshop. Participants shared ideas and discussed challenges faced in conserving marine resources. The workshop ended with field activity, making coral nursery.

Congratulations Gildipasi, local CBO for hosting Mini-Agriculture and MSME exposition at Yadigam village in Sumkar District in Madang. With support from USAID LGP, the women’s groups and partners showcased their skills through the production of arts and crafts to business houses

Congratulations to 35 participants in Jiwaka Province completing Financial Literacy Training. They now join over 600 participants awaiting to graduate. Jamie Mond, person with special need said FLT has given him confidence to operate a business. Thanks USAID for support.

Congratulations to the three clans from Sumkar district in Madang province which signed a Conservation Deed to protect 8490 hectares of land, consisting of 3468 hectares of marine and 5020 hectares of terrestrial. With support from USAID LGP, this milestone has been achieved.
