Gear exposed to harmful fireground chemicals can continue to off-gas, putting firefighters at risk if kept in the cab of a vehicle. Placing the PPE in a sealed bag or container separated from the firefighter eliminates this exposure risk. Learn more at nvfc.org/lrr.

New Mexico: Expecting heavy rain? Beware of flash flooding - especially in areas that recently experienced wildfires. Burn scars leave the ground unable to absorb water as it once could. Have different ways to receive alerts and listen to local officials.

We are in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season! In addition to basic survival supplies, your household emergency kit should include items to address your specific needs. For example, if you take medication, talk to your doctor about how you can create an emergency supply.

It may be Christmas in July, but storms don’t care if you’re decking the halls or catching a tan. So while you put lights on a palm tree and sweat through your Santa hat, check your emergency kit! 🎄 Batteries 🎄 Flashlights 🎄 Fruitcake that doubles as a doorstop (Optional)

Severe thunderstorms are expected in different areas, from the Northern Plains and Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. When thunder roars, go indoors! No place outside is safe. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm. More tips ⬇️

Floods are the most common disaster in the United States. If your area is forecast to experience heavy rains, flash floods could follow with little to no warning. During a storm, monitor updates to your area's flood risk and be prepared to evacuate quickly if necessary.

The neck, face, and hands are highly susceptible to soot exposure, making these the easiest places for fireground substances to meet the skin. Using a wet wipe on-scene after response helps clean these areas of harmful substances. 👉 nvfc.org/lrr.
