Brainard Lake Recreation Area opens to motorized access Friday, June 13; Long Lake and Mitchell Lake Trailheads open in July. Trails in the area remain snow packed. Timed entry reservations are required and can be made through Recreation.gov up to 15 days before a trip.

New porta potties and bear-proof trashcans are now located at Herman Gulch Trailhead. Bear-proof trashcans are only effective when they can be fully closed. If the can or dumpster is full, pack your trash back out with you. Unsecured trash is an easy target for wildlife.

Access Update: Hidden Wilderness Road (Forest System Road 773.1) on Clear Creek Ranger District is closed to public access weekdays through October 31 while the City of Idaho Springs completes work in the area. Public access is permitted on weekends throughout this period.

Safety and Access Alert: Machinery and logging trucks are operating on FSR 170 near the Deadman Fire Tower on Canyon Lakes Ranger District. Maintain distance from equipment, and expect delays up to 30 minutes. Roads are open. Work is occurring Monday-Friday through November.

Safety Alert: Thinning and other work is starting in the Gold Lake area near Ward in preparation for prescribed fire in the winter. Crews will be using chainsaws, small machinery and hand tools to work in the area. Use caution and observe signage when crews are working.

ACCESS REMINDER: Fourth of July Trailhead Trailhead on Boulder Ranger District is closed 6 a.m. July 28 – 5 p.m. July 29 as Boulder County crews perform road repairs and maintenance. Hessie Trailhead remains open to provide access to Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.

The Wild West Relay is taking place Friday, Aug. 1 along portions of Larimer County Roads 74E (Red Feather Lakes Road) and 86 (Deadman Road) as well as at nearby Forest Service trailheads. Please use caution and give plenty of space when passing runners.
