#OTD in 1898, an Act of Congress establishes an assay office in #Seattle. The office was needed in response to the large amounts of gold brought in from the Yukon by Klondike miners. The office was closed in 1955 as a result of declining gold deposits.

#OTD in 1901 ceremonies marked the completion of the 3rd #Philadelphia Mint building on Spring Garden Street. Later that month, the Mint officially moved to this location. The Mint remained at this building until 1969, when it moved to its current site.
