There is simply no way to reliably know the magnitude or importance of the effect in question at any scale without studying it. It's a shame because while I don't know him, I know many of his colleagues at The Atlantic who are excellent and well aware of this point.

Childbirth has large negative effects on women’s founding rates and firm performance, explaining the entrepreneurship gender gap. Entrepreneurial outcomes never recover to pre-birth levels. But childcare availability and progressive gender norms reduce these adverse effects.
