Best early parenting advice I ever got was: Accept that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. We’re all doing the best we can in the moment - and usually on less sleep than we need. Recognize, learn, forgive yourself, and keep loving your kid with a heart free of guilt.

I moved to Texas with my wife and five kids, and I’m learning more about parenting and being a father every day. I’ve decided to use this platform to share stuff I wish I’d heard before our first kid.

In the interest of clarity, I’ll present it all as directly as possible, even if it makes it sound like I think I’m an expert. I’m not. Every kid is different and so is every parent. Take what works for you and feel free to ignore the rest.

Books and the internet are big on milestone timetables... but I’ve never met an adult who wasn’t potty trained, or didn’t walk because they didn’t learn in time. Kids do stuff at their own pace. Much easier to sync up & support, rather than force or fret.
