Celebrating Independence Day doesn’t honor the martyrs if you stay silent about the injustice they died fighting against. True honor means speaking the truth. They gave their lives for justice, not for fear and silence. #EritreaAt34 #EritreanJusticeSeekers #Eritrean

It's hard not to grieve during independence day. So many lives lost and families scattered. To think after 34 years, Eritrea is still ruled by one man. A once vocal people silenced. Independence without freedom. Disappearances & imprisonment without trial. Eritrea deserves better

In my latest piece with @OneDaySeyoum, I reflect on what Eritrean independence truly means. Is it just the end of foreign rule—or should it also mean freedom, justice & dignity for all? 📖 Read here: onedayseyoum.org/blog/eritrean-… #Eritrea #IndependenceDay #HumanRights #Freedom

This is a school-to-military pipeline. This year alone, out of 24,092 students, only 4800 passed the National School Leaving Examination. The remaining 20000 students will be sucked into the miliary. This scheme needs to be abolished.

So, that’s it.   #Ethiopia doesn’t want to become a prisoner of geography, and #Eritrea doesn’t want to become prisoner of history.    Therefore, Ethiopia will do whatever it has to do to gain sea access (except, apparently, ratify the one thing it needs: The United Nations

When the 2018 Eritrea-Ethiopia peace deal happened, many believed that things might be changing in #Eritrea. In this video I explain why that NEVER was possible and how detrimental that narrative ended up becoming.

If you want to follow Eritrean politics in English, I highly recommend the website ‘Eritrea Digest’. Ciham’s Uncle who runs it is one of smartest and hilarious people ever and this is reflected in everything he writes. It’s basically brilliant political analysis mixed with humour.

Baltimore has been investing youth programming, including late night programs, summer camps, teen jobs, sports, after school programs, etc. Homicides in the city are down 40%, with steep drops in robberies, carjackings, and shootings. This should be talked about more.

Give the kids structure in a positive environment. Nurture their creativity. Develop their confidence & independence. Not only because evidence shows it leads to crime reduction and improved academic performance, but because they deserve safe, enriching, engaging opportunities.
