On February 10, 1840, Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha. After the ceremony in Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, Victoria presented each of her twelve train-bearers a brooch designed by Prince Albert.

#Otd 1849: Queen Victoria arrived in #Cove #Cork for a 10-day visit. It was renamed 'Queenstown' (back to Cobh after independence). Lots banners read “Hail Victoria, Ireland's hope & England's glory.” For Christmas that year Prince Albert gave Victoria this Celtic-style brooch!
