🎂 A very happy 99th birthday today to Sqn Ldr (Rtd) George "Johnny" Johnson MBE DFM - pictured far left RAF Scampton on 22 July 1943. Johnny is the last surviving original member of No. 617 Squadron Royal Air Force and of Operation Chastise, the "Dambusters" raid of 1943. #WW2

Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visit the USS Des Moines in Valletta, Malta, in January 1950. Philip was stationed in Malta from 1949 after being posted as 1st Lt on HMS Chequers in the Mediterranean Fleet and Elizabeth worked with the SSAFA at Auberge de Castile.
