I cannot recommend this amazing charity enough. So important for ensuring diversity and resilience in local varieties and what’s not to like about receiving 6 packets of sensational veggie seeds for free by joining!!

Interesting but sweetness alone a great tomato does not make. What of the balance of acidity, the nutrient density of and will it be free to other breeders to use to improve local varieties. Scientists identify tomato genes to tweak for sweeter fruit theguardian.com/science/2024/n…

The The Guardian fails to challenge the hegemony of molecular commercial breeding. Wild relatives and traditional varieties contain the genes these companies use to create new cultivars over which they then claim ownership of. I call that intellectual theft

Another sneak preview from our #HSLSeedList2025. #Pea 'Clarke’s Beltony Blue' is a wonderful #heirloom variety, grown by our donor’s great grandfather on his farm in Co. Tyrone since at least 1850 - but possibly as far back as 1815! Not a member? Head to gardenorganic.org.uk/join.

My pond has been turned into a growling, boiling cauldron of lust. The frogs are back in force. Proof if it was needed that spring has well and truly sprung!

📷 I love the SSE and am honoured to be included in their lineup of speakers at their virtual conference on 6th June. Sharing and maintaining locally adapted garden and farmer varieties is wonderful to embrace nytimes.com/2025/01/15/rea…

What an ignorant and stupid comment. She should be reminded that it was the French who supported the American war of independence. if it wasn't for them King Charles 111 would be in the White House

beyondpesticides.org/dailynewsblog/… This is a really excellent piece of news. If Kenya can stand up against the hegemony of the big agri-businesses who want to commodify and control IP of seeds then all of Africa (and the rest of us can).

This is such an important story because the way to preserve and enrich crop diversity is to have living collections continually being grown. Seed libraries are great because seeds are shared, grown and returned. theguardian.com/environment/20…

After just 48 hours these Syrian courgette seed have germinated. One variety is from seed I collected in Aleppo in 2011 and have been saving ever since and the other, a white type, is held by Irish Seed Savers I will cross them and hope to create a new Welsh cultivar
