Don’t fall victim to the trend on X to reduce all tech policy to “you’re either with us or against us”. Plenty of issues don’t have clear solutions—in some areas reform is needed, in others new creative ideas. This is not binary. You’re not an enemy if you disagree with someone.

So pleased to see this. I wrote in my book about the need for politicians to use their convening power to try and direct AI to more purposeful and beneficial uses, rather than focusing only on risk and protectionism. Better late than never! axios.com/2024/10/31/bid…

Anxious about the US election? Why not distract yourself by reading my latest piece for Financial Times on the lessons of Napster for the age of AI! ft.com/content/5bfa85…

Excited to learn that the new Netflix film 'Joy', about the first baby born using IVF, shows just how controversial it was at the time in the media and public opinion. I wrote a chapter about this period of frontier science in my book--and what it tells us about this moment in AI

The first full report from the AI & Geopolitics Project, my research group at Cambridge, is out today. We go beyond the simplistic 'AI arms race' narrative and explore practical, realistic opportunities for international collaboration on AI. Kudos to Aleks Turobov, PhD for leading this!

The AI race doesn't have to be zero-sum. International organisations already find natural alignment in specific domains, where competition naturally transforms into collaboration, not through grand agreements. Check out our policy paper

So many writings on AI but they rarely the international aspect, so this report is important and timely. Rather than deploring AI global fragmentation, the report outlines practical steps to make process. Great work by @AITurobov, Diane Coyle & Verity Harding

It’s an honour to have Angela on our AIxGEO advisory board and even more to have someone her calibre and expertise find our report unique and useful.

I was asked to write a prediction for WIRED “The World in 2025” bumper edition, so I wrote about AI & geopolitics: ‘It’s time to move past AI nationalism’ Lots of other great pieces in there too, pick up the physical magazine if you see it. wired.com/story/artifici…
