Sad news: Frederick Brooks, the famed computer architect who designed OS/360, died Thursday. A true icon, who won the Turing Award in 2000, Brooks was one of the great thinkers in computing. Industry tributes are pouring in the celebration of his contribution and life.

My wife and I enjoyed spending time with Fred at the annual Heidelberg Laureate Forum. He was a kind and gentle mensch and enthusiastic about his work until his death. He will be missed sorely but remembered with gratitude for his major contributions to computing technology.
