We're resharing some of our favorite posts from 2023. This #BlackinEnvironWeek post by Vanessa García Polanco, MS is from April. We're so glad Vanessa will join us as a keynote speaker at #NaturallyLatinos. Details: hopin.com/events/nlc2024…

We recently announced a $747k Dept. of Agriculture grant through UConn to help young farmers gain key business skills and ensure they have the tools to withstand setbacks like the flooding many farmers faced last year. To secure the future of food production, we must support young farmers.

✨Thrilled to see my book on Fannie Lou Hamer on this reading list! 📚 “Keisha N. Blain presents a well-researched and dynamic view of Hamer’s unapologetic advocacy for voting rights, land justice, and Black sovereignty.” - Oprah Daily oprahdaily.com/entertainment/…

We need people in our lives to open the doors and tell you - you belong in this room! #NaturallyLatinos keynoter Vanessa García Polanco ( Vanessa García Polanco, MS).

On our #LASOAct briefing this afternoon we're grateful to be joined in support from original bill cosponsors Tina Smith Rep. Nikki Budzinski Congressman Zach Nunn Rep. Joe Courtney who understand the importance of promoting equitable #landaccess for #youngfarmers in the #farmbill.

NEW: The Dept. of Agriculture equity commission has released its final report this morning. Over 60 recommendations to make its sprawling programs more accessible. Some the dept has already started on, others take Congressional action. There’s a lot in here: npr.org/2024/02/22/123…

THANK YOU to Angie Craig & Rep. Betty McCollum for becoming co-sponsors of the Land Access, Security, & Opportunities (LASO) Act! The LASO Act, championed by Tina Smith, reauthorizes the landmark Land, Capital, & Market Access Program with $100M and is a top LSP priority.

Funding for USDA & agencies expires Friday, March 1 absent congressional approval of an FY24 appropriations bill or an extension of current funding. Our latest post details the ongoing stand-off & touches on the importance of the Packers & Stockyards Act⬇️ sustainableagriculture.net/blog/riders-in…

For the policy wonks, these are the House Committee on Agriculture House Agriculture Committee Democrats #farmbill amendments #YoungFarmers supports and opposes: VOTE NO on #9 by Frank Lucas: repeals rule 1071 of the CFPD, requiring lenders to track demographics for more equitable lending and transparent markets.
