A 🧵 of 2 papers… The 1st has been a while in coming. Our survey of SLT service provision in UK ICUs: content.iospress.com/articles/advan… Thank you to all the SLTs who participated. Apologies it took so long to publish. RCSLTTracheCEN RCSLTResearch Advances in Communication and Swallowing Intensive Care Society 💙

Another well done to Emily who presented at our Therapies link the introduction of the ITU communication stations👏👏 An amazing project she has been leading on to improve the patient experience and help them communicate via any means🤩🙌RCSLT 💙 BHRUT_CriticalCareEducation ruth dando

A pilot study of FEES in trached ECMO patients by Elicia Jones and swallaceobeslt. No adverse effects in any of the 10 patients & 7/10 patients returned to oral intake with cuff up. Risk of bleeding while on anticoags discussed with intensivists who made decision re proceeding.

Study presented by Laura Harbert of 15 trached patients unable to tolerate cuff down w/ whom ACV was trialled: - 74% demonstrated improved ICU FCS score with most going from 1 to 4 - 67% demonstrated increased frequency in saliva swallows - Only 1 patient reported discomfort

OT is such a crucial element of critical care rehab. We love our OTs Martin Torres Christa Latham. Thank you Sarah Dzumbira for sharing your evidence on unmet need. 15 patients per month referred vs 53 patients who require input. Good luck in continuing to develop your service.

Great talk by Laura Harbert on above cuff vocalisation. Following with interest as would love to get this implemented Martin Torres #SOA23 Esther Norton (she/her) Ram Matsa

Great talk from Rebekah Haylett demonstrating the value of physio and early mobilisation in critical care. MMS score on ICU discharge was independently associated with discharge to usual residence. @AshYouLikeIt Laura Swinscoe #SOA23

Learning lots #SOA23 Intensive Care Society 💙. Really enjoyed the talk by Fiona Kelly on ICU airway mx and how video laryngoscopy vs. direct laryngoscopy leads to better intubation success. Also interesting to note that Propofol worsens cardiovascular instability and intubation outcomes.

Is trans-laryngeal #ultrasound a useful tool for #screening the #abnormal #vocal #fold #movements seen in #inducible #laryngeal #obstruction #ILO? Congratulations to our very own Claire Slinger on the BRAND NEW publication of her protocol: content.iospress.com/articles/advan… 🤩🤩🤩

Really useful paper providing evidence that DELAYED SLT intervention is associated with persistence of post extubation dysphagia and death RCSLTTracheCEN Intensive Care Society 💙 ccforum.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Excellent talk by Hannah Lawrence, Respiratory consultant University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS FT on the difficulties in diagnosing AP, CAP, HAP and VAP and why it even matters. Thank you for a great day of learning @trentdysphagiacen
